Project Name:

Walking in a Flowers Shoe (Hyper Realism)

Date Started:

Fall semester 2010

Date completed:

End of semester 2010

Duration:

Completed/Printed

Project Team:

Gina Fiore

Introduction and Justification:

My objective was too originally to take an ordinary high heel shoe and create unique flowers to be grown out of the shoe, as if the shoe was a flower pot. I then thought it would be interesting to make the shoe be created from a different type of texture, bark.

Goal:

The goal of this project was to take different objects and make them fit perfectly with each other. In my case a shoe made of bark.

Methodology:

The approached this project without knowing all of Photoshop, I was familiar with the program but still had some trouble. Using Photoshop I selected different parts of the shoe the outside, the inside, the bottom inside and the heel and made paths. I then placed a picture with great resolution in my work space and used my paths to make the bark on the shoe. When the bark was in the shape of the shoe boring looking. Using these paths and the gradient tool I enhanced the shoe by making some parts dark to portray shadows. I then decided the shoe was looking like it was floating in thin air and needed to be transformed (turned) to look like it was sitting on something and more realistic.

Challenges:

The only challenges I had with this project was my flowers, I wanted them to be in the initial project but as it progressed I realized the shoe made of bark was interesting in itself so I ditched the flowers and worked on making the appearance a lot better.

Results:

I am extremely happy with my hyper realism shoe and it is my favorite out of all my other projects I have done in this class this past semester. I worked very hard on it all semester and I think that the effort shows itself.

Beyond the Results:

Perhaps now that the shoe looks great one day I can add those flowers in to make it more appealing to the eye, as well as a better background.

Project Name:

Row Boat (Cubism)

Date Started:

Fall semester 2010

Date completed:

End of semester 2010

Duration:

Completed/Printed

Project Team:

Gina Fiore

Introduction and Justification:

My objective to this project was to take an ordinary row boat and make it look like you were in the boat and seeing it from every angle that you couldn’t necessarily see from one side of the boat.

Goal:

This project is cubism so the goal to this project was to take multiple parts of images and connect them to make one overall image.

Methodology:

The method to this project was very simple to use my quick selection tool and cut out parts of the image I thought were intriguing. First I started with the sides of the boat and front and transformed them to fit next to each other as if you were in a box made of boat parts. Then I tried to connect pieces of one side of the boat to other sides of the boat. Therefore taking planks and changing the perspective view on them. Also taking important parts of the boat like the numbers displayed on the side are now right in your face with an interesting touch to them using shadows. I also took ropes that were on the boat and made them fall off a plank and wrap around to the side as if I had take the pictures with the rope there already. I used a clear tool to sharpen the edges while masking what I wanted to keep.

Challenges:

The most challenging thing to my boat project was the rope getting it to flow through the boat was very difficult. It took me about 2 weeks to finish just that aspect. Finally with the help of the professor, filters and shadowing the rope looks great.

Results:

I feel I could have done more with this project, it looks great and I’m happy with it, it is certainly my second favorite I have completed.

Beyond the Results:

Since I feel there may be more I can do perhaps I can sit on this and perfect it till I feel it is completely finished.

Project Name:

Beautiful Lake (Grid)

Date Started:

Fall semester 2010

Date completed:

End of semester 2010

Duration:

Completed/Printed

Project Team:

Gina Fiore

Introduction and Justification:

My objective to this project was to take this beautiful scenery and change bits and pieces of it to make it look like it’s been distorted but still can make sense of what the original may have looked like.

Goal:

This project is called grid, where you borrow the idea from cubism but it is quite different where as with cubism we took parts of the picture and grid we are taking the picture and connecting them by using the same picture with different sizes of the image.

Methodology:

The method to this project was actually easy for me, I would take the rectangular marquee tool and make a shape around the piece that I wanted and pasted it onto my composition. I then would free transform it to its fitting and kept taking pieces of my original image, for example my swan the wings and different parts of it and systematically fit it together overall making my swan a lot bigger than it originally was.

Challenges:

The most challenging part of this project was trying to get everything to come together. It was difficult to make the sizing of pieces and images fit perfectly. Overall this was my least favorite project.

Results:

Overall this was my least favorite project. Maybe it was my subject I was constructing with or maybe the technique itself. The composition came out nice but nothing to my standards,

Beyond the Results:

Maybe I can work more with this technique and another subject to see if it’s something I can be better at or even begin to enjoy.

Project Name:

Shag Shoe (Creative)

Date Started:

Fall semester 2010

Date completed:

End of semester 2010

Duration:

Completed/Printed

Project Team:

Gina Fiore

Introduction and Justification:

My objective to this creative piece was to use hyper realism again and instead of making my shoe look like bark I decided on another texture that maybe be appealing, a shag carpet.

Goal:

The goal of this creative piece for me was to take hyper realism and my favorite piece this semester and make a whole new twist on the idea.

Methodology:

The method to this was very similar to first shoe take the quick selection and make paths. But in this creative one since I was using a different texture I had to make it look like an actual shag carpet. It wouldn’t be interesting unless some of the carpet was hanging over the edge of the shoe, so I used to clone stamp tool painted on what I needed and then continued make some frays hang over the edges of my shoe.

Challenges:

The most challenging was making the shag carpet into the shape of a shoe and still have these two separate objects become one object while keeping their same identities.

Results:

Overall this was not my favorite or least favorite project, I enjoy hyper realism but I didn’t get enough time to finish this the way I wanted.

Beyond the Results:

I hope to perfect this shoe as much as I can I feel it is incomplete and not as interesting as my original hyper realism project.
